Selaginella - Peacock

Native to China, the Selaginella Peacock is named for its stunning varying, shimmery, iridescent, blue green coloring of the lacy, fern-like foliage. Its metallic turquoise colors and dainty shingling foliage really are a work of art! This remarkable plant is classified as a "fern ally" (or lycophyte) due to its delicate fern-like foliage, but it is commonly considered a moss because of its low growth habit.

Light: Selaginella is a true low-light plant, and its brilliant blue hue stays vibrant under minimal light conditions.It is definitely one to keep out of direct sunlight though, as its delicate foliage will quickly scorch.

Water: When kept indoors, these plants like to be thoroughly soaked. Like ferns, this plant needs watering more frequently than most of my tropical houseplants, so just make sure you test the soil with your finger every couple of days to see if it needs a drink. It really will do best with consistent, regular watering. We like to bottom-water these plants, as the delicate foliage does not like to get or stay wet.

Humidity: Selaginella thrive in a humid environment and will appreciate it if you add a humidifier or pebble tray to your plant care routine. These plants also do awesome in a terrarium!
